Why some people do not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and His teachings?

There are many reasons for not believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. For instance, many people do not believe in the Lord Jesus or His teachings because they do not know anything about Him. These people have not had the opportunity to read the Bible, especially the Gospel that speaks about His person, goodness, righteousness, holiness, purity, and perfection, and His total lack of any sin, deceit, or fault. They do not know how He was born of a virgin, without a father. They do not know about His unique teachings, which even His enemies acknowledged by saying, “No one ever spoke like this man.” They do not know about His miraculous deeds, such as restoring sight to the blind, healing the sick with a word, walking on water, calming storms with His command, raising the dead, and even bringing a man out of his grave four days after his burial. They do not know about His love for humanity, such that He came to this earth to offer Himself as a ransom for all, dying on the cross to bear the punishment for humanity’s sins. They do not know about His resurrection from the dead and His appearance to His disciples after His death. They do not know about His ascension into heaven in front of His disciples. They do not know that He will come again to judge and rule over every person in the hereafter. Without reading or listening to the Bible, it is difficult for an individual to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. Here, it is worth mentioning that God Himself informed us in the Old and New Testaments about the Lord Jesus Christ. He told us in the Old Testament through prophets who were inspired by the Holy Spirit to prophesy about the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ hundreds of years before His arrival. There are hundreds of prophecies about the Lord Jesus in the Old Testament. For example, the prophet Isaiah, about 700 years before the birth of the Lord Jesus, prophesied about His birth in Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.” God informed us in the New Testament about the Lord Jesus Christ by inspiring the apostles of the Lord Jesus to write about Him. For instance, the apostle Matthew interprets Isaiah 7:14 in his Gospel, Matthew 1:18-21: “This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, ‘Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.’ All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’).” In the Gospel of Luke 24:27, we read, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” The Lord Jesus Christ said to the Jewish leaders in John 5:39, 46: “You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me… If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.” Another reason that prevents a person from believing in the Lord Jesus is the love of sin and iniquity, and the lack of desire to change one’s corrupt behavior and walk with God in piety, righteousness, and goodness. The Lord Jesus Christ forbade sin and evil, not only in outward actions and appearances but also in the mind and heart. The Lord Jesus condemned hypocrisy and pretense, clarifying in His teachings that God is holy and sees what is in the heart and mind, and desires the inner purity of man in thoughts, feelings, and intentions. Unfortunately, many people pretend to be pious and devout, but their inner selves are full of evil and impurity. God said in Isaiah 29:13-14, “…these people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is based on merely human rules they have been taught. Therefore, once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder…” The Lord Jesus Christ said about Himself in John 3:19-21, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.” A third reason for not believing in the Lord Jesus is pride. The Bible affirms that we are all sinners and guilty before God, as no one can reach the perfection God desires. We read in Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” The prophet Isaiah, inspired by the Holy Spirit, says in Isaiah 64:6, “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.” Even our righteous acts are like filthy rags before the holy, perfect God. How miserable we are, then. Our human condition is hopeless. But God loved us and had compassion on us in our wretched state and wanted to save us from the punishment of hell. Therefore, God sent the Lord Jesus to earth to bear the punishment for the sins of humanity by His death on the cross and to grant forgiveness of sins to all who believe in Him. We read in Isaiah 53:4-5, “Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds, we are healed.” Romans 5:6 says, “You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.” John 3:16 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The believer in the Lord Jesus Christ also receives righteousness, goodness, and piety as a gift and grace from God. We read in Romans 3:21-22, “But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.” Unfortunately, many want to draw near to God and gain His approval through their works and are unwilling to admit that they are sinners stained with iniquity, incapable of reaching God’s holy standards. Pride prevents them from confessing their sins and accepting God’s free gift to them, the gift of the forgiveness of sins and the righteousness of the Lord Jesus Christ, which God gives to everyone who believes in the death and redemption of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross for their sins. Does pride prevent you, my friend, from accepting God’s free gift? John 1:12 says, “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” God has clearly revealed in His Holy Book who the Lord Jesus Christ is and commanded us to listen to His words. We read in Luke 9:35, “A voice came from the cloud, saying, ‘This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.'” The Lord Jesus Christ Himself said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” In John 5:22-23, the Lord Jesus says, “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.” God has promised that anyone who sincerely and earnestly seeks the truth, wishes to please God, and genuinely wants to know who Jesus Christ is, will have the truth revealed to them by God. Here are some of God’s and the Lord Jesus’ promises from the Bible: – Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” – Jeremiah 29:13, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” – Deuteronomy 4:29, “But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.” – John 7:16-17, “Jesus answered, ‘My teaching is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me.
